After recently winning a few Golden Globe awards for its original TV series Transparent, Amazon Studios has announced that it will be starting to make movies this year. These movies will be initially for theaters but will become available to Amazon Prime users between 4 to 8 weeks after the theater release which is quite shorter transition to online streaming.
In fact Amazon is staring quite big in this area and has plans to produce around 12 movies in the first year and the implementation of this plan will start later this year. Roy Price, the Vice President of Amazon Studios has said:
”Not only will we bring Prime Instant Video customers exciting, unique, and exclusive films soon after a movie’s theatrical run, but we hope this program will also benefit filmmakers, who too often struggle to mount fresh and daring stories that deserve an audience,”
The main competitor of Amazon, Netflix also has some titles lined up for theater release. Netflix makes available the movies at the same time these are premiered in theaters. Amazon on the other hand wants to give exclusive theater screening time to its movies.
