With increased sales of iPhone and iPad, there are more sales of apps as well. Apple has said on Tuesday that it has sold more than $10 billion apps via its App Store during the previous calendar year.
And going by the 30 percent cut that Apple takes from the sales, App Store generated a revenue of $3 billion for Apple.
The revenue from App Store is only a tiny fraction of Apple’s total revenue of $91 billion most of which is generated from the sale of iPhone and iPad. But it is an important contribution to revenue at a time when the overall growth of Apple products are slowing.
Apple also disclosed that December was the best month as far as sale of apps was concerned because Apple managed to sell more than $1 billion worth of apps in that single month. Apple also said that app developers on its platform had earned more than $15 billion since 2008 which means that the total app sales since that time are $21 billion.
