Facebook has updated its desktop website design with emphasis on moving away from its earlier efforts to unify the desktop and mobile app designs.
Facebook introduced a new design last year which added an new menu to the left like Facebook’s Android and iOS apps. However, Facebook has now admitted that the new design looked cool but it made difficult for the users to get around the site. Facebook says that it took the users’ feedback into account while designing the new update for Facebook website.
The new update simplifies the menu on the left hand and options like Pages, Apps and Photos have been removed. The new news feed will also show bigger pictures and new set of fonts (Arial and Helvetica) have been used.
Facebook has moved many accounts to this new simplified news feed and it expects to complete the migration of all users within the next few weeks.
This update to the Facebook design for desktop shows that while it keeps trying to optimized display on mobile screens, Facebook is going back to basics when it comes to desktop.
