The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, has announced a new project named Facebook Connectivity Lab, which is a division of Facebook with job of bring universal internet coverage to everyone by using lasers, drones, satellites and whatever it takes.
This initiative is part of Internet.org which is a partnership of different big companies to bring internet to every living person on earth.
Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post that : “Our goal with Internet.org is to make affordable access to basic Internet services available to every person in the world.”
Two videos have also been posted by Internet.org showing how they will connect to internet using these technologies. One of the videos shows a simulated drone powered by solar power and the other video shows a Facebook engineer explaining how they are working at Facebook Connectivity Lab.
Facebook plans to use a technology called Free Space Optical communication which can dramatically increase internet speed by manifolds, a statement on Internet.org claims.
Facebook is also reportedly in talks with Titan Aerospace to give to boost to these efforts. Rival Google has also launched a project named Project Loon, which aims at providing internet access using big air balloons.
