Free in-flight Movies for Apple Devices on United Airlines

Apple devices including iPad, iPhone and Mac will be able to watch more than 200 TV shows and 150 movies while on board a United Airlines flight, a report by Patently Apple claims.

United Airlines will reportedly push an update for iOS that will also have a feature to watch in-flight movies. In order to use the service, the users will be required to have an Apple device running iOS 7.

Initially the movie service on United Airlines will only be available for Apple devices and there is now news about its availability for Android devices or other platforms.

The in-flight movie service will be available on a selected number of planes initially but it will be soon made available on all United Airlines flights.

According to Patently Apple an insider at United Airlines said:

“Most planes will be equipped with the new system very soon, and we’ll have it installed on most domestic aircraft by the end of 2014. We’ll begin on Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Boeing 747-400 and select 777-200 aircraft, followed by additional fleets.”

United Airlines will not be the first to offer such a service. Lufthansa already offers this service to iOS, Android and Windows phone devices via BoardConnect, its in-flight entertainment system. SouthWest offers a similar movie service over WiFi but charges a fee for the service.
