Google Alerts Police on Spotting Child Porn in Email of a man

skillernA Houston man named John Henry Skillern, has been arrested by Police over charges of possessing child porn after it was tipped off by Google about presence of child porn images in his email, police have told KHOU-TV.

According to police, Google filters spotted three alleged porn images of small children in email of Skillern and reported this to National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Skillern, who is aged 41, is employed at Denny’s and has a previous sexual offense history and is a registered sex offender. Police have said that more evidence of child pornography has been discovered from his other computing devices.

Google has clearly stated in its Terms of Service that “automated systems analyze your content (including emails).” In a recent update to its Terms of SErvice, Google also explicitly states that this “This analysis occurs as the content is sent, received, and when it is stored”

There is not doubt that nobody can question the argument of protecting underage and minor children but privacy advocates will feel itchy about what other situations can lead to Google tipping off authorities.

A Google spokesman has said that they do not comment on individual accounts.
