Google Loses Motorola’s Patent Case Against Apple

Motorola closeupAn appeals court in the US has held today that Google has not infringed a Google patent related to mobile phone technology. This is reassuring for Apple that iPhones imports into US will not be affected.

Motorola Mobility, which Google has bought for $12.4 billion in 2012 along with its 17,000 patents, had claimed before the U.S. International Trade Commission in the case that Apple infringed its 6 patents. The patent involved in this appeal related to data delivery to wireless devices. However, US appeals court has held that the technique used by Apple was a different one. The same patent claim has also been asserted against Microsoft.

A Google spokesman for Motorola said that they were disappointed with the ruling and were “evaluating our options.” The company has the option to request a hearing of the case by all the judges of the court or may take it to the Supreme Court.
