Huawei is planning to launch a dual-boot Android and Windows Phone smartphone in the US, chief marketing officer Shao Yang told TrustedReviews.
He said that Huawei remains committed to Windows Phone but the preferred option is to have it as a dual boot along with Android. He said: “With Windows Phone, one direction for us – and one that we are now following – is dual OS. Dual OS as in Android and Windows together.”
This dual-boot smartphone will be launched in the US in the second quarter which will likely coincide with the launch of Windows Phone 8.1 by Microsoft. Yang said that this will give the users an option to change the OS as per their wish. He also said that : if it is Windows only, maybe people will not find it as easy a decision to buy the phone.”
Microsoft has been making efforts to push Windows 8.1 by even offering free licenses to smartphone makers. But Windows Phone still has to gain the kind of popularity that Android and iOS enjoy.
