Apple will start to update the existing devices to iOS 10 starting 13th September. This is claimed to be THE biggest update from Apple to its mobile OS and comes with a major update to the digital assistant named Siri, which has been given a complete overhaul to improve search function and transcription of voicemails. It might also be able to write text messages for you. Siri is also being opened up for developers and it will be possible for you to send voice message to users on WhatsApp or you might even book an Uber ride with your voice message to Siri.
Besides Siri, there are also some major updates to the whole operating system too. One such change is Universal Clipborad which will allow you to copy and paste images or text across devices. Another feature being introduced is Raise to Wake which will allow you to see the lock screen on your phone and notifications when you raise it, for example from your desk.
The other big changes are coming to the built-in apps. Maps, Photos, News Music and messaging apps are getting a refresh. The biggest overhaul is coming to Messages with bigger emojis, message animations and integration with Apple Music. And Apple is also now allowing the developers to integrate their apps with iMessage for the first time. News is also getting updated with with breaking news notifications and subscriptions to news sources.
Beginning September 13th, iOS 10 will be a free update for compatible devices which are iPad mini 2 and higher, iPhone 5 and higher, iPad 4th generation, iPad Air, iPad Pro and iPod touch 6th gen.
