Apple is reportedly in advanced stages of work on the next version of Apple TV set-top box, 9to5Mac has reported.
The new Apple TV is most likely to be launched in the early first half of 2014. According to the report, it will come with a new revamped user interface and even deeper integration with iOS. This could possibly mean that Apple TV will formally be available as a platform for App Store and third party games and apps could be developed for it.
The selection of channels offered on Apple TV has increased over a the past few months but still are not as deep in offers as Roku or some other competing set-top boxes.
The blog has further reported that Apple might consider a “Game Store” for Apple TV if the company would shy away from the full App Store connection. The report also says that certain new types of content will be available for this next generation of Apple TV but hasn’t clarified what that content is.
Currently users can play games on Apple TV by using AirPlay but a more focus on gaming could mean that Apple will venture into Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo consoles business.
