The gaming company Nintendo has reported profits less than what the analysts had expected but has retained its overall outlook for the year based on satisfactory sales for Nintendo 3DS consoles and the progress on its impending entry into the arena of smartphone games.

The second quarter profit for the period ending September has been reported to be $64.77 or 4.8 billion Japanese yen from last years 9.3 billion yens. The analysts had expected Nintendo to report a profit of around $9.3 billion, Reuters has reported.

These results from Nintendo are the first after the new CEO Tatsumi Kimishima took over after Satoru Iwata died because of a long struggle with cancer after he had already announced entry of Nintendo in smartphone gaming.
