The Interview is at the top of Popular Right Now Chart of YouTube after it was released on online video channels by Sony on December 24th: The other channels are Google Play, Xbox Video, and SeeTheInterview.com.
According to reports available from Deadline and Variety, The Interview managed $1 million sales on Christmas day after being released on 331 independent and small theaters. In comparison Angelina Jolie directed war movie Unbroken managed estimated sales of $15.6 million.
The digital earnings of The Interview by seriously hit by piracy. Thought unfinished edits of The Interview have not been released by the hackers online which they did in case of Fury and Annie. But users have found that the DRM protections on the official streaming site by Sony are extremely poor. After renting the movie for 48 hours by paying $5.99, the users could simply share the movie with their friends by just copy/pasting the URL of the movie.
According to estimates by Variety, high resolution versions of the movie were downloaded via torrents for more than 900,000 times during a period of 24 hours after the legal release of the movie.
