RapGenius Back in Google Results, Call Themselves ‘Morons’

Rap Genius, the song lyrics website, has announced today that it is again being indexed by Google Search Engine.

Earlier in the week, Rap Genius was totally wiped off Google search results after it was caught gaming search results. Google took punitive action against it and its traffic nosedived at 90 degrees without Google search traffic.

Rap Genius has said in a long blog post on their website:

“We overstepped, and we deserved to get smacked. To Google and our fans: we’re sorry for being such morons. We regret our foray into irrelevant unnatural linking. We’re focused on building the best site in the world for understanding lyrics, poetry, and prose and watching it naturally rise to the top of the search results.”

Rap Genius had tried to game Google search results by asking people to link to Rap Genius irrespective of whether their blogs or websites had anything related to Rap Genius or not.

After Google took action Rap Genius was thrown to page 6 and beyond of Google search results from top of the search result when someone looked for a song snippet. Even the query “Rap Genius” will not bring its website on top search pages of Google.

Rap Genius has explained on its blog post that it started off with legitimate links but then they got into aggressive link building mode which resulted in bad and questionable links to Rap Genius.

In order to come clean to Google, Rap Genius then identified all the bad links and got these removed by the blog or website owners.
