Government officials in Russia have changed their iPads for Samsung tablets to ensure better security, Nikolai Nikiforov, telecoms minister of Russia has told journalists. He said that the change has taken place only recently after journalists inquired about ministers not using iPads in a cabinet meeting.
He said that Samsung tablets that ministers are using have passed strictest security checks and are fit for working with confidential information. He said:
“Some of the information at government meetings is confidential in nature and these devices fully meet these demands and have gone through the strictest system of certification.”
He denied that any Russian sanctions against US IT firms have been imposed. But he expressed his concern about recent news that US security agencies are going to further augment their information gathering capacity for other countries. “This obviously orientates Russian clients, primarily state ones, to be very choosy about their partners in IT,” he said.
He also said that Samsung and some Chinese companies are of interest to Russia in this regard.
