Walmart has also applied to US regulators to test drones for delivering products at homes of the customers, for curbside pickup and for checking inventories of warehouses , which is a strong signal that Walmart is planning to go head to head with Amazon on this front.
Wal-mart, which is the world’s largest retailer in terms of revenue, has already conducted indoor tests for drone delivery for several months and has now sought permission to test the unmanned aircrafts outdoors. Walmart plans to use drones from SZ DJI company of China.
This application from Walmart has come as Google, Amazon and a few other companies expect that FAA will soon allow the commercial use of the drones. FAA had said in June that the the rules might take a year.
Amazon has already said that it is all ready and will start delivery via drones as soon as the rules are allowed.
