First Variety Magazine and then many other sources have reported that YouTube is very near to buying the video game streaming service Twitch for $1 billion. According to Variety, it will be a cash deal and very imminent.
In a related report, Wall Street Journal has said that the deal is still in its infancy and is not imminent. If the deal goes through, the world’s most trafficked sites will be under Google’s umbrella.
There are not enough details available about the development at the moment. Twitch was launched in the year 2011 and has become one of the most popular video live streaming service with more than one million unique users a month. In fact a recent study from Deepfield suggests that it is even ahead of Google in data consumption during its peak hours of play. Both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 support Twitch.
YouTube, which is the undisputed king of online video, has not made a great mark in live-streaming so far.
Both Twitch and YouTube have so far not commented on the news.
